Dear readers, today I’m publishing a guest-post by new friend and collaborator, Dr. Kathleen Waller. Kathleen writes The Matterhorn, a delightful publication in which she “investigates the intersections of literature and art across times, cultures, mediums, and genres.” Each week, she looks at a new topic through several texts with the aim to gain a better understanding of ourselves and our world.
What a fantastic post! As a lifelong reader, and someone who has grown more "impatient" with reading as I've gotten older (probably due to too much time online), I love the idea of embracing the limited time we have to read not only what we really WANT to read, but also curating what we're exposed to. I do this a lot with newsletters. I also get 2 newsletters in the morning that are specifically news-related. Past that, I don't browse for news online. Instead, most of my reading is for expanding my mind and learning about topics that interest me (versus being the most up-to-date newsmonger possible). It has shifted my relationship with words so much!
