I loved primary school too. It was small, the topics were interesting, I loved learning. High school not so much, it was too big, too rough, and I was way more anxious.
Junior high was the roughest for me. The only all-boys class in a coed school, three or four of my classmates were borderline criminals. Luckily, they left me alone.
I loved studying too. Elementary school was good, although I was an extremely anxious, possibly Asperger child. The 3 years of Junior High (in Italy) were a relentless nightmare of bullying and verbal abuse. Luckily, my 3 final years of High School went relatively smoothly, and I absolutely loved my College years. Can't get enough of those blue skies, Gianni, cold air and sun go so well together.
It looks like your school years were like a rollercoaster. In my case the bullying went on out of school, in the playground. And then they say that youth are supposed to be the best years of our lives.
Cold air, the sun, and a good pair of shoes. Or a bike.
I know most people are happy to see the back of high school but I knew I could never behave that way ever again (unless I became a rock star or diva or something).
No, nothing sinister or salacious but my personality definitely had free reign at school. I guess it was a safe space for me to express my wacky behaviour and warped sense of humour, both of which have been reigned in over the years so I can hold down a job, move through society with grace and decorum, be accepted by people I hate etc etc. we all do it to a certain extent.
I loved primary school! It was the closest I ever got to my true nature, especially in terms of creativity, in the way children are. That began to fall away in high school but I look on my school days with very fond memories.
I guess the best time for me were the last three years of high school (in Italy, it lasts five years). Junior high wasn't so bad, though my class had some very bad characters.

I wouldn't want to be a child or a young woman again, even though life ain't easy now either.
The same things you need in the Netherlands to enjoy the great outdoors. It rains very often, but at least it's really good when it stops.
There's a Frank O'Hara poem, Autobiographia Literaria, that pretty much describes my early school years. Not the most pleasant! But, i got past it.
I'll to check out the poem.

I'd like to hear more about that 😎
